Our Student Accommodation FAQ's
How can I reserve rooms to rent?

In order to secure a room or property with Varcity Living, follow the simple steps found on our viewings and bookings page here.

Can we book our student housing as a group?

Yes, just follow the process outlined on our viewings and bookings page.

What is a guarantor and why do I need one?

A guarantor is someone who undertakes the responsibility of paying the rent for a property should the tenant be unable to do so themselves. The guarantor is also obliged to be responsible for any outstanding rent or damages caused by the tenant should they fail to meet the terms and conditions of their tenancy. Finally, the guarantor will be required to sign the Occupation Contract, therefore making a legal obligation to ensure the rent is paid.

How much will the utility bills be?

Some select student rentals come fully inclusive of all utilities. For all other properties, the cost will be entirely dependent on usage and tariffs. To find out more about estimated charges and about the possibility for a fully inclusive contract for any of our properties, let us know and we can discuss this with the landlord. Another option is to ask existing student occupants of their current utility usage and they will be able to give you a rough indication of estimated costs.

Can I move out before my contract ends?

Yes. You are welcome to move out of the property before the contract ends, however you will still be responsible for paying the rent and any bills until the official end of your occupation contract.

Can I move in to my student accommodation early?

This is dependent on a number of things including the type of contract that you have. Please complete the enquiry form if you require an earlier move-in date and we will do our best to make this possible for you.

Can my friends and family stay over?

Yes of course. There is also plenty of hotel accommodation on offer in Bangor for any visitors you may have – examples of which can be found here – but Varcity Living does not have a problem with friends and family staying over in rented properties. However the stay should be short-term and not disrupt your fellow housemates’ study and enjoyment of the property.

Are my possessions insured?

Personal possessions insurance is only included in some of our student lets. For all other properties you will need to arrange your own insurance.

Can I get internet access?

Select properties come inclusive of Wi-Fi, however in all other private student accommodation occupants must connect to, and pay for, a Wi-Fi network of their choice.

What are the charges for paying by credit card?

In line with Financial Conduct Authority regulations there are no charges for credit card payments.

Can I smoke in the property?

No. All of our student flats and houses are non-smoking. It is against the law to smoke in a registered HMO.

Are there any laundry facilities on site?

Yes. All of our properties come equipped with a washing machine as standard with some also including tumble dryers.

Is there on-site parking?

Some of our properties come with on-site parking, however this is not available for all of our student housing. This information will be specified in the general information for the specific student accommodation you’re interested in.

Will my room be inspected?

Yes, we inspect all of our properties to ensure you are getting the room you paid for. You will be given plenty of notice before a planned inspection.

Will my room be cleaned?

The property will be clean and tidy when you move in, however we do not provide a cleaning service for our properties as standard. Remember that it is your responsibility to keep your room and shared areas as clean as you found it, or you could be charged.

Weekly cleaning and laundry services can be arranged at an additional cost – contact us with any further questions about this.

What happens in an emergency?

We advise that you call the office for personal assistance from 9:00am and 5:30pm. Details are found on our contact page. When the office is closed, please call the maintenance team on 07506 580 397. Remember, you can report all maintenance issues online 24 hours a day here.
